A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda

clarapritchard:

At the use of her first name, Clara raised a brow. She never liked getting familiar with people and Yates seemed to be trying to do exactly that. Then, as the girl went on to explain herself, tilting her head and all, Clara strained not to laugh. Clara often found herself doing similar actions, but only if not to amuse her own self.

"Alright, Yates." Clara nodded, the amused expression never leaving her face, "I’m not exactly sure where what you’re looking for is," she picked up the candle lamp and jerked her head in another direction, "But I’ll take you to where the books I’m talking about is." Clara shrugged as she began walking, "What type of memory experimentation are you looking into, though? I might be able to recall a more specific book." She mentioned lightly.

Of course, the other girl wouldn’t find it positive to be on a first name basis. Matilda mentally shrugged, knowing she wouldn’t change her title usage. Last names were used to be cold in her mind and she had no reason to be at the moment. At least her speak of r & d made the girl get a more pleasant expression.

Following the second a direction was made, Matilda merely sighed, putting her hands in her pockets. “Various forms. Between us and these books, I’ve got a taste for distortion. Though I am trying to broaden my horizon from that. It’s more of a past time casting for me now.”

A Restricted Reception || Clara & Matilda

clarapritchard:

Clara pursed her lips at the girl, staring. It was odd how friendly Yates seemed— Although, Clara could see, personally, how she lived up to the reputation of being the oddly nice Slytherin. She didn’t fool Clara though. No person with any good intentions gets sorted into Slytherin. But it impressed her a bit, that she could go on so long pretending. She felt she owed it to the girl to go along with it.

"Actually, Yates, you didn’t need to sneak into the Restricted Section for that. Any memory charm books can be found in the regular section." Clara jerked her thumb behind her. "Although…" She licked her lips, "There are a few books that cover the psychological effects of memory charms in here, if that’s what you’re looking for. I think Hogwarts felt that they were too graphic and gave far too many ideas."

The girl was clearly a skeptic. She’s a loner, of course she has doubts across the board for many. It was funny, though, that Matilda was so used to reading people that she didn’t need to focus into the dark for Pritchard’s aura. Body language. That and eyes. The keys to everyone. She rarely encountered anyone who could disembody themselves from that human nature of themselves.

"I certainly wasn’t looking for the mundane texts they do allow us to read, Clara. Those tell me nothing. I know the charms. I’m speaking more of.." She pursed her lips, tilting her head from side to side for a moment. "Experimentation. That’s the best word for it. Traditional charms do nothing but surface work.” She smiled warmly once more, but not as an offer, this time it was the satisfaction of thinking about her goal.
